International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Las
Vegas, N, 2007-01-08 - Pericom Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: PSEM), a worldwide preferred supplier of high-speed integrated circuits and frequency control products,
today announced it has expanded its high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) switch portfolio with four new active high-bandwidth differential switch
solutions for multi-source or multi-sink video applications including TV, monitor, set-top box, switch box, and game consoles.
Pericom’s active HDMI switching solutions now provide signal conditioning features and compliance with the new revision 1.3 HDMI standard.
All four switch solutions offer 1080p high-resolution video support with 12-bit color depth per channel. By providing signal conditioning and switching,
these solutions allow designers to switch as many as three ports to a single display over cables as long as 20 meters.
“For the
consumer video product market, HDMI-enabled device shipments will grow 78% per year through 2010,” said Brian O’Rourke, senior
analyst at In-Stat. “Pericom’s latest HDMI product family entries appear very well positioned to take advantage of this high-growth consumer
market segment.”
“The demand for multiple HDMI/DVI connectors to link various sources, such as DVD, STB, PCs, and
gaming consoles to a single video screen, has created a need for longer cable lengths, due to the uncertainty of A/V setup in a consumer’s
home,” said Shaf Rahman, Pericom’s senior director of Switch and Interface Marketing. “With longer cable lengths, the signal
reduction loss takes place almost in an exponential factor as the cable lengths increase from 1 meter to 20 meter cable.”
“Our unique optimized equalization setting, combined with configurable pre-emphasis, de-emphasis and output swing control, enable video
network designers to achieve the required signal integrity at sink. Designers can now build large screen liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs, monitors and
notebook PCs with docking stations, with multiple HDMI/DVI connectors at far distances internally, and connect to external video sources
with
long cables. This also eliminates the need to use expensive A/V switch boxes, which typically range from $200 - $400.” Rahman added.
The newly released HDMI products, PI3HDMI341ARx, PI3HDMI412AD, PI3HDMI421AR & PI3HDMI411AD have been designed with
Pericom’s innovative technology, which combines high-speed differential video switching with proven signal-conditioning expertise to achieve the
specific impedance required for HDMI/DVI signals to minimize reflections and insertion loss over long trace or cable lengths.

HDMI:
HDMI (High-Definition
Multimedia Interface) is the first and only industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. By delivering crystal-clear, all-digital audio
and video via a single cable, HDMI dramatically simplifies cabling and helps provide customers with the highest-quality experience. HDMI provides an
interface between any audio/video source, such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver and an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital
television (DTV), over a single cable. www.hdmi.org |
