Pericom First to Market with Gigabit Ethernet LAN Switches Featuring Enhanced ESD Protection

San Jose, CA, 2006-01-03 - Pericom Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: PSEM), a worldwide preferred supplier of both high-speed integrated circuits and frequency control devices, today broadened its industry leading LAN Switch family with a new pair of analog switches that support the highest level of ESD specified protection for susceptible products ranging from PCs to Televisions.

PI3L301D-A and PI3L500-A are 3.3V, 16-Bit to 8-Bit, Mux/DeMux Gigabit Ethernet LAN Switches with Single Enable, and Enhanced Electro Static Discharge (ESD) Protection. Pericom's new devices meet or exceed the highest standards of all three ESD types including Human Body Model (HBM), Contact Discharge, and Machine Model, thus allowing customers to have the confidence of greater tolerance of high voltage surges and better protection of their systems internal circuitry.

"According to the IEC specification, consumer products must provide the highest level of ESD support, which is 8kV of contact-ESD protection. Typically, external circuitries, such as diodes, are needed to achieve the higher ESD protection. Some external ESD solutions can cost up to $0.25 per Ethernet port. The same robust ESD support is now integrated into Pericom's new PI3L301D-A and PI3L500-A products," said Shaf Rahman, Pericom Marketing Director. "Both of our enhanced ESD LAN switches meet the 8kV of contact-ESD requirement for data pins. One Pericom advantage is that competitive solutions can only provide a maximum support of 3kV of HBM-ESD protection. With these enhanced LAN switches in the market, Pericom clearly maintains its leadership position in the Gigabit Ethernet LAN switching applications for Notebook and many other consumer products " continued Rahman.
