Typical Ethernet Switch Systems

The top network equipment manufacturers use multiple Pericom devices in their products. See Fig. 1 for a generic overview of the Gigabit Ethernet Switch system.

A typical Ethernet switch can be looked at on 2 different levels: Control & Data (fig. 2), and Clock & Timing (fig 3). Pericom has solutions for each of these 2 levels of timing and control needs.

Pericom offers the highest performance digital bus switches in the industry. These 2-port mux/demux digital switches are used for Control & Data within the Gigabit Ethernet Switch.

Pericom’s Microprocessor (µP) Supervisor Circuits, offer precision supply voltage monitoring. In a Gigabit Ethernet Switch system its function is Control & Data (see fig.4):

Pericom’s Voltage Level Shifters can be used for Control & Data within the Gigabit Ethernet Switch design (fig. 5). These devices and their features are as follows:
